JOB SUMMARY

Kosmix was founded in 2005 by Internet pioneers Venky Harinarayan and Anand Rajaraman (both Stanford CS alumni who also founded and sold Junglee to Amazon.com for $ 250 Million in 1998), and is headquartered in Mountain View, California with an office in San Francisco, CA. The User Experience Team
As a strategic part to product development at Kosmix, the UED team plays a key role in every step, from initial brainstorming sessions to product launch. In addition to creating the best user experience for our web products, we are also developing for other platforms such as smart phones or ipad. We are a fairly small team, which allows for each team member to truly own and lead the design effort and influence the Kosmix user experience.
The Opportunity:
⢠We are looking for an experienced Senior User Experience Designer who is passionate about conceptualizing high-level ideas and as well as tactical UI design and implementation
⢠You will be responsibile for creating the user interface of our key consumer experiences and projects, ranging from vague to well-defined, simple to complex, implementation to innovation
⢠Solving problems creatively and coming up with a variety of solutions is one of your strengths
You will be working hand in hand with product managers and web developers to bring product ideas to life
⢠As a Senior member of the UED team, you will be contributing to a range of design challenges, including usability testing, information architecture, interaction design and visual design
⢠You will define and implement design criteria, guidelines, and specs; illustrate experience with industry standards and corporate visual design guidelines
⢠Your design expertise will allow you to effectively communicate, incorporate feedback and get buy-in on proposed solutions from key stakeholders
⢠You will Identify and lead process improvements that make the UED team more efficient and effective
The Desired Skill-set:
⢠5+ years of experience as a UED Designer with a focus on consumer-facing products
⢠Bachelor’s or higher degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science, or related field
⢠Strong online portfolio available for viewing
⢠Proven ability to set the design direction for your projects and to collaborate with other designers

Overall Function:

Weâre looking for a Web Producer to help keep our online presence as top-notch as our science and policy work. Together with other senior members of our Internet team, the Web Producer will help build the next generation of our online presence. Projects can range in scope from routine landing pages to a full site makeover. The position is based in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities:
⢠Work with program and communications staff to articulate and clarify their goals
⢠Based on the goals, guide the team in developing content strategy, design guidelines, information architecture and outreach plans, including use of social media.
⢠Schedule, track and manage projects with multi-disciplinary teams of staff and consultants. Small projects might include just a writer or a subject expert. Large projects can involve an outside designer, UI researcher, programmer, communications director and additional writers and experts.
⢠Build site sections using our content management system, HTML, CSS, and Wordpress.
⢠Take full responsibility for the overall cohesion and quality of projects, including quality assurance.

Qualifications:
⢠Five or more years of experience coordinating and executing projects of similar scope and complexity.
⢠Thorough knowledge of online production environments and challenges.
⢠Proficiency with standards-compliant HTML, CSS and basic image editing and design using Photoshop
⢠Experience keeping project teams focused, organized and moving. Knowledge of Basecamp is a plus, but compulsive use of any similar tool is a good sign.
⢠Strong user-centered design background, including familiarity with common research techniques. Strong design experience or formal design training is a plus.
⢠Excellent written and in-person communication skills. Editorial background is a plus.
⢠Familiarity with dynamic content, RSS feeds, incorporating social media components, Wordpress, video and audio editing. Experience creating multimedia features is a plus.
